Brugel, the only Canadian in the cast of Season 1 she was rarely was seen. Then, in Season 2, she joined the regular cast and still a part it today. While discussing her role, and its similarities to real life, Brugel could relate to racism and the negative treatment she's endured throughout her life. The actress said: "I lean heavily on race and, like I've mentioned earlier, I've encountered situations where I felt that I was treated like the slave because I'm black." My race has never led any physical injury during my lifetime, but it's something that I've encountered. All racial insults or insults that felt like a hit, or even a painful blow to me, can be used in the show when someone speaks of something as tough and painful.
