DanicaDanica Sue Patrick is an American former professional racing racer. Danica Sue Patrick is among the most successful woman in American open-wheel car racing time. Her victory in the Indy Japan 300 was her first victory. She dropped out of high school with permission from her parents in 1998, and then moved to the United Kingdom to further her career. Patrick was a competitor in Formula Vauxhall before moving to the United States in 2001 because of a lack of funds. In 2002, she raced in five Barber Dodge Pro Series races along with Rahal Letterman racing. Patrick was an official Toyota Atlantic Series racer for the next two seasons. Her best finish was third in the championship standings during the 2004 season, where she became the first female to be awarded a pole in the series.She first competed in the IndyCar Series with Rahal Letterman Racing in 2005. She scored three poles, equalling Tomas Scheckter's record for poles in her rookie season. She was the IndyCar Series rookie of the year 2005, and also won the Indianapolis 500. She made progress over the next two seasons with Rahal Letterman Racing 2006, and then Andretti Green Racing 2007. In 2008, Patrick followed up her Japan victory by finishing at sixth place overall in the overall drivers' standings. She then improved to earn fifth place the following year, which saw her finish a career-high third at the Indianapolis 500, the best performance by a woman in the race. Patrick's overall performances slowed during 2010but she achieved two second-place finishes at oval tracks before leaving IndyCar after the 2011 season in order to focus solely on stock car racing.
